Interesting game.  Tied after 1, we had a lead after 2, they lead after 3, 4 & 5 and we took the lead back by 1 after the top of the 6th.  With time expired, they had runners at 2nd and 3rd with only 1 out.  We made a great catch in the outfield to save the game, but the runner tagged up for the tie.  Their last batter popped up, we dropped it and he had too much pride to run it out so we had plenty of time to throw him out at first.  Final Score:  WPFF  12    Borrachos  12.

Outstanding defense.  Lots of good plays in the infield, lots of great catches in the outfield, gunning down a couple of greedy runners trying to take 3rd and Tom and Walt taking turns and doing an out standing job on the mound.

So if we did so great, why didn’t we win?  I’d like to hear your opinion.  Here’s mine…
- 2 key base running errors that would have scored 2 more runs.
- A double play.
- 14 of the 18 outs were fly balls.
- Correct me if I’m wrong but did everyone have the attitude of let’s try our best?

Next week is only 1 game.  Win and we’re champs.  Lose and it’s a disappointing 2nd place.  If we avoid the 4 areas above I know we can make it a great game to end a great season.

Good game.  We got a lead, kept it and finished strong.  Excellent Defense covered for our average hitting.  Final Score:  WPFF  14   Borrachos  6.

With the 2nd place Borrachos losing and Last Chance beating the 3rd place Dirty Birds that clinches the regular season championship and gives us the #1 seed in the playoffs.  We had 10 regular season championships in the past.  Where do you go from their?  11…  This one goes to 11.  Sorry, couldn’t resist the Spinal Tap reference to their amp having volumes that go to 11.

Next week may be a meaningless game but it’s the last one before the playoffs.  Let’s fire up and go into the playoffs with momentum.

Great to have all 12 regulars at the game for the 1st time this season.

We started off with a slight lead and grew it every inning thru 4 growing it from 4-3 to 16-7.  In the 5th we were scoreless for the 1st time.  With time runing out they launched their biggest inning in the bottom of the 5th.  They had 8 runs accross with 2 outs and a runner on base (I think).  They had the momentun and could have gone for the win.  Instead their coach had their batter intentionally strike out so they could get 3 more outs.  The small problem with that theory is you now need to give your opponent (us) an additional 3 extra outs we didn’t have left.  We capitalized on that scoring 4 and only allowed them to get 1 run back in the bottom of the 6th.  Final Score:  WPFF  20     Crunch Time  16.

Last Chance couldn’t catch us as of last week.  With the win over Crunch Time, they are now unable to catch us so we’re guarenteed a playoff spot.  Our next game isn’t for 3 weeks and we finish the regular season with 2 straight games against the Borrachos.  If we win 1 of the 2 games we’ll finish seeded #1.

Interesting pre-game activities.  Lots of scattered rain in the area.  But not enough to cause a rainout.  Thankfully everyone followed the plan and showed up to play.

We both started off slow ending the 1st with a 1-1 tie.  Although they scored 4 we exploded in the 2nd scoring 10.  We continued the momentum in the 3rd outscoring them 7-3 and 6-0 in the 4th.  We ended the game with a 1-0 5th to finish with a big win.  Final Score:  WPFF  25  Last Chance  8.

I think everyone played great on both offense and defense.  However I’ve gotta throw a shout out to Walt.  The 2nd inning I subbed in at catcher.  I got to see his excellent pitching 1st hand from behind the plate.  I’ve never see the wind blow so much.  You could say it blowed almost as much as Mike Hammer does as umpire.  A couple of pitches were coming straight onto the plate and the wind blew it sideways a good 2 to 3 feet.  Walt make a couple of the greatest adjustment pitches I’ve ever seen and will probably never see again.  One of them was about a foot behind the right handed batter.  The wind caught hit, brought it down from across his head and landed as a strike.  It must have broke at least 3 feet from left to right.  Several other great pitches just like it.  Any other pitcher would have allowed 10 times the walks Walt did.  Great job!!!

It was good to see German show up to watch and even better news hearing he can sub for us next week.

We started off slow, got slower then gave too little too late.  From 3-14 after 3 to a heroic comeback attempt in the 7th to come up short.  Final Score:  WPFF  10   Dirty Birds  17.

We’re 1 game back from them in 2nd place.  It’s a good spot.  We won’t get moved up (knock on wood) and we’ve got a good shot at the playoffs.

We played Crunch Time who not only is the only team to beat us so far but they mercied us.  Considering this, we started off really well with a 7-1 lead after 1.  The next 4 innings not so well.  We were outscored 2-8 to make it a tie game.  Last inning and they scored 4 and we needed 5 to win.  We started with 2 out and with our backs against the wall we had another great comeback ending with Pat scoring 2 on a triple to win it.  Final Score:  WPFF  14   Crunch Time  13.

So for the 2nd time in a row we had a dramatic come from behind win.  Great Job Everyone!!!

That puts us in a time with the Dirty Birds but they had a bye so they’re 3-1 to our 4-1.

Half way through the season and hopefully they’ll let us finish w/o moving us up.  Lots of fun as always.  OK.  Signing off from Stamford, CT.  Coach

Wow.  Down 17 runs after the top of the 1st and we only scored 4 back.  In the 2nd we held them to zero and scored 11.  Wow again.  Only down 2.  In the 3rd we gave up 3 and in the bottom of the 3rd they said it was the last inning.

We needed 6 and got  2 across before we got 2 outs.  We did a great job of not giving up, scored 4 on a 2 out rally and in dramatic fashion won a thriller.  Final Score:  WPFF  21     Last Chance  20.

The only negitive was our old moronic umpire Mike Hammer.  He’s such a egomaniac and idiot rolled into one.  Got the substitution rule wrong and thought it was a good idea to invent a new rule about when a fly ball hits a tree but is still in fair territory.  I’ll be calling the league to complain about him… again.  Hopefully I’ll get a lifetime ban against him.

Great job.  3-1 after starting 0-1.  Also Crunch time lost so we’re currently in a 3 way tie for 1st.  Enjoy the week off and we’ll see you on St. Patty’s Day.

Thanks so much to MLS for their great scheduling.  Last week we have a bye and this week we have a double header.

Thanks so much (seriously) to the team for letting me know if you can’t make the game and to everyone who busted their hump to get to a 6:10 game on time.

Game 2:  Offense ruled the day.  We played a team we’ve struggled with over the years but on this game our bats woke up.  Although we gave up 14 we score 34.  Don’t know the last time we scored that much but it’s gotta be over a year or more.  Final Score:  WPFF  34   Dirty Birds  14.

Game 3:  Defense ruled the day.  We battled throughout.  We were down 4 at our worst point and at our best we were only up 3.  A close game throughout.  In the end, we coasted on offense but stayed strong on defense.  Final Score:  WPFF  11    Borrachos  8.

Way to turn it around.  From being mercied our 1st game and being in last, we won both games in a double header and moved into 2nd.

Wow, a 5 inning mercy in the middle league to start the season opener.  What happened?

-  We played defense as best as we could but they hit the crap out of the ball.
- We didn’t hit as a team.  Only 6 runs against any team might have had a chance of winning in the 80’s and 90’s but with the juiced bats these days it would take a miricle to win these days.

1 down and 9 to go.  I’ve got a good feeling about the season despite out opener.

OK.  So we won the 1st game and had the momentum into the finals.  We didn’t start too badly.  0-0 after 1, 0-2 after 2 and 0-4 after 3.  That was as good as it would get.  Their long ball hitting wore us down, especially me making several mistakes in the outfield.  Although they did out hit us we beat them in our 1st meeting and tied in our 2nd.  On our 3rd meeting they finally beat us.  Final Score:  WPFF  4     Bat Junkies  21.

So not only did they score 21 against us, this was our 21st Championship game.  Even though we didn’t win this one, our Championship record is an outstanding 2-1 ratio.  We’ve won 14 and been runner up 7 times.

Next season should be interesting.  We may have 2 new players.  German is out injured and even though I haven’t heard from Dean, rumor has it that he may not return.

Hopefully 2011 will be a huge milestone for the team.  Stay tuned…
